Amazing Grace: The Gift We Don't Deserve

Today's Scripture: Romans 8:29

"For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son."

Grace is the heartbeat of the Christian faith. It's what sets Christianity apart from every other religion and philosophy. Every other system says, "Do this and you'll be accepted." Grace says, "You're accepted; now here's how to live."

The apostle Paul understood grace because he experienced it so dramatically. Once a violent persecutor of Christians, he encountered the risen Christ and was transformed. He later wrote, "By the grace of God I am what I am" (1 Corinthians 15:10). Paul never got over the wonder that God would love someone like him.

Grace means we don't have to earn God's favor or work our way into His good graces (pun intended). Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it crystal clear: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."

But grace is not just for salvation; it's for everyday life. We need grace when we fail, when we fall back into old patterns, when we disappoint ourselves and others. And grace is always available. "Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).

Living by grace also means extending grace to others. As we receive God's unmerited favor, we're called to show that same kindness to those around us - even when they don't deserve it. Especially when they don't deserve it.

What would change if you truly believed God's grace is sufficient for you? What burdens would lift? What freedom would you experience? Today, rest in grace. You can't earn it, you can't lose it, and you certainly need it. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
