Living as Light: Making a Difference in Dark Places

Today's Scripture: John 14:27

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Jesus declared, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden" (Matthew 5:14). This isn't a suggestion or a possibility; it's a statement of identity. If you belong to Christ, you are light. The question is: are you shining?

Light does two things automatically: it dispels darkness and reveals reality. When light enters a room, darkness has no choice but to retreat. When light shines on a situation, what was hidden becomes visible. This is our calling in a dark world.

But being light requires courage. Darkness doesn't appreciate being exposed. When you live differently - with integrity, compassion, and truth - you may face opposition. Some will be attracted to the light; others will resent it. Both responses confirm you're making an impact.

Being light is not about being perfect. It's about being transparent - honest about our struggles while pointing to the God who sustains us. Our weaknesses, handled with authenticity, often shine brighter than our strengths, because they reveal God's power at work.

Practically, being light means speaking truth in a world of lies, showing kindness in a culture of selfishness, and maintaining hope when despair is fashionable. It means living the gospel, not just preaching it.

Where has God placed you? Your workplace, neighborhood, school, or gym is your mission field. The people around you need the light you carry. Don't hide under a basket; set your light on a stand where everyone can see.

You don't have to create the light; you simply have to let it shine. Jesus is the source; you are the vessel. Let Him shine through you today.
