We live in a culture that celebrates strength and despises weakness. We're told to "power through," "tough it out," and "never let them see you sweat." But the Bible offers a radically different perspective on weakness.
Paul received a "thorn in the flesh" - some persistent affliction that caused him great distress. Three times he pleaded with God to remove it. God's answer was surprising: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9). Paul's response? "Therefore I will boast gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
This is counterintuitive to everything we've been taught. But think about it: when we're self-sufficient and strong in our own power, we have little need for God. It's in our weakness that we discover His strength is more than enough.
Isaiah 40:29-31 promises: "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Are you exhausted today? Overwhelmed? At the end of your rope? Good news: that's exactly where God meets you. His power is not hindered by your limitations; it's actually showcased through them. When you're weak, He has the space to be strong on your behalf.
Stop pretending you have it all together. Admit your need. Lean hard on Jesus. And discover that His grace really is sufficient.
